PSALM 37

I have a saying: "Be careful about what you ask for, because you might actually get it".

Of course, this isn’t a problem if you’re asking the Lord for what you want. Does this mean that God will grant whatever you ask for? The answer is probably Yes, if what you want is what the Lord wants.

In Psalm 37, King David writes,
"Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass".

If you trust in the Lord, and delight in Him, then His desires become your desires, and you’ll find yourself asking for that which He wants to give.

Sounds boring, doesn’t it? Or does it? Any loving parent knows that he cannot always grant his child’s wishes, because it’s not what the child needs, or because it’s just downright not good for the child.

But when the child asks for something that will benefit him, and if it’s in the parent’s power to give, what joy there is in the giving and the receiving. And aren’t we all children of God?
